Main Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup sweet potato purée (homemade or canned) Use plain sweet potato purée, not pie filling.
  • 1 medium banana, sliced and frozen Add fresh banana but include ice for a colder texture.
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds Can be substituted with flaxseed meal.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice Substitute with ground cloves or ginger if needed.
  • 1/2 cup almond milk Any plant-based milk works here.
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup Can be substituted with honey or agave syrup.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter or peanut butter (optional) Can also use sunflower seed butter.
Optional Toppings
  • sliced banana
  • chia seeds
  • granola
  • melted nut butter
  • toasted nuts (walnuts, pecans, or almonds)

Method

Preparation
  1. Place the frozen banana slices in the bottom of a high-powered blender.
  2. Add the sweet potato purée, chia seeds, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, almond milk, maple syrup, and vanilla. If desired, add almond butter or peanut butter.
  3. Blend until smooth and creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides if necessary.
  4. Adjust the texture with more milk if too thick, or add ice/cold purée if too thin.
  5. Pour into a glass and top with your choice of toppings.
  6. Store any leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator for best results.

Notes

For the best flavor and texture, use cold sweet potato purée and consume the smoothie the same day. Adjust sweetness based on ripeness of the banana.
