Ingredients

For the cranberry simple syrup
  • 1/2 cup cranberries Fresh or frozen, firm and bright
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Can substitute with honey or maple syrup for a different sweetness
  • 1/4 cup water
For the cranberry gimlet
  • 3 oz cranberry simple syrup
  • 2 oz gin or vodka Use vodka for a cleaner taste, gin for a more herbal taste
  • 2 oz fresh lime juice Measure carefully to avoid overpowering the cranberry
Optional Garnish
  • frozen cranberries
  • sprig of rosemary
  • lime wheels

Method

Preparation of Cranberry Syrup
  1. Combine the cranberries, sugar, and water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally for about 5 minutes, keeping it below a boil.
  2. Once the sugar dissolves and cranberries soften, take the pan off the heat and strain out the cranberry pieces.
  3. Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature.
Mixing the Cocktail
  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Add the cranberry syrup, gin or vodka, and fresh lime juice.
Finishing Touch
  1. Shake for about 20 seconds until chilled and frosted on the outside.
  2. Strain the cocktail into a chilled gimlet glass.
  3. Garnish with frozen cranberries, a sprig of rosemary, or a lime wheel, if desired.
Storage
  1. Store any extra cranberry syrup in an airtight container in the fridge for 1 to 2 weeks.
  2. You can freeze the syrup for up to 3 months in a sealed freezer-safe container.

Notes

Avoid boiling the syrup hard as it may affect the flavor. Always let the syrup cool before shaking with ice to maintain drink quality.
