Ingredients

Cocktail Ingredients
  • 4 oz ginger beer Choose a flavor you enjoy; chill well before mixing.
  • 4 oz cranberry juice cocktail Unsweetened cranberry juice can be used for a tarter drink.
  • 2 oz dark rum or vodka Use vodka for a lighter taste or dark rum for a warmer flavor.
  • 1 lime, halved Juice from half a lime is used in the mixture.
  • crushed ice Essential for chilling and giving the cocktail its mule style.
  • fresh or frozen cranberries For garnish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Fill a copper mug with about 1 cup of crushed ice to keep the drink cold.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, add ice and pour in the ginger beer, cranberry juice cocktail, dark rum or vodka, and juice from half of the lime.
  3. Stir gently or shake very lightly to mix without losing too much fizz.
  4. Pour the mixture into the mug with crushed ice slowly, to maintain a refreshingly neat appearance.
  5. Top with fresh or frozen cranberries and garnish with a lime wheel.
Make Ahead
  1. Mix everything except the ginger beer ahead of time and chill. Add the ginger beer right before serving.
  2. For a non-alcoholic version, replace the spirit with club soda.

Notes

This cocktail is best served immediately. If you need to store the mixed base, keep it in the fridge for up to 24 hours without ginger beer. Do not shake the cocktail too hard to maintain its fizz.
