Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef Use ground beef that is not too lean for the best flavor.
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1/3 cup chopped green pepper Can substitute with other bell peppers for a sweeter flavor.
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted Can substitute with cream of celery or cream of chicken soup.
  • 1 can condensed tomato soup, undiluted
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 1 tsp salt Be careful with adding extra salt due to the seasoned soups.
  • 1/4 tsp dried oregano Can be replaced with Italian seasoning.
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 8 oz wide noodles, cooked and drained Do not overcook the noodles as they will continue to cook while baking.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Can substitute with Colby Jack, Monterey Jack, or mozzarella.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with the chopped onion and green pepper. Stir often to break up the meat.
  3. Once the meat is browned and no pink remains, drain off the extra fat.
Mixing the Sauce
  1. Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, tomato soup, tomato paste, salt, oregano, pepper, water, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
  2. Fold in the cooked and drained wide noodles until well coated with the sauce.
Assembling the Casserole
  1. Spoon the mixture into a greased 3-quart baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  2. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
Baking
  1. Cover the dish and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes, until heated through.
  2. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
Storage Tips
  1. Let the casserole cool before refrigerating. It can be stored for 3 to 4 days.
  2. You can freeze it for 2 to 3 months. For easier reheating, freeze in portion-sized servings.
