Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 lbs chicken (thighs or drumsticks) Bone-in, skin-on recommended for richness.
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional) Add based on heat preference.
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup sour cream Can substitute with plain Greek yogurt.
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish To add color and freshness.
  • Egg noodles or dumplings, for serving Can serve over either option.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a slow cooker, combine the chicken, onions, garlic, paprika, salt, black pepper, cayenne (if using), diced tomatoes, and chicken broth. Stir well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.
Cooking
  1. Cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
  2. Once the cooking time is up, carefully remove the chicken and set it aside on a cutting board.
  3. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the sour cream and flour until smooth. Stir this mixture back into the slow cooker to thicken the sauce.
  4. Shred the chicken using two forks, discarding any bones if you used bone-in cuts, and return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker. Stir well to coat it in the creamy sauce.
  5. Allow everything to cook together for an additional 15-20 minutes to meld the flavors.
Serving
  1. Spoon the chicken over cooked egg noodles or dumplings. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley.
