  • 1 each 1 apple, peeled and finely diced Choose firm varieties like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji.
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted For the filling.
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar For the filling.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon For the filling.
For the rolls
  • 12 slices white sandwich bread, crusts removed Crusts should be removed for easy rolling.
  • 3 large eggs For the egg wash.
  • 1/2 cup whole milk For the egg wash.
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract For the egg wash.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter For cooking the rolls.
For finishing
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar For sprinkling on top.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon For sprinkling on top.
  • to taste Maple syrup For serving.

Method
 

Make the Apple Filling
  1. In a small bowl, combine the finely diced apple with melted unsalted butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon. Toss gently to coat the apples evenly.
Prepare the Bread
  1. Using a rolling pin, flatten each slice of crustless bread until thin and pliable. Spoon about one tablespoon of the apple mixture along one edge of each slice and roll it up tightly.
Make the Egg Wash
  1. In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, and remaining ground cinnamon.
Cook the Rolls
  1. Heat butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Dip each roll into the egg wash and place seam-side down in the skillet. Cook for about 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden brown.
Finish with Sugar and Cinnamon
  1. Mix the remaining brown sugar with any leftover cinnamon and sprinkle over the warm rolls.

Notes
