Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the ziti pasta about two minutes less than the package directs. Drain and set aside.
Making the Sauce
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for about one minute, stirring constantly.
- Slowly whisk in the milk, adding a little at a time until smooth.
- Continue cooking for 5 to 7 minutes until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
Combine Ingredients
- Remove sauce from heat and stir in 1 cup of Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg until smooth.
- In a large bowl, toss the cooked pasta with the Alfredo sauce and 1 cup mozzarella cheese. If adding sausage or chicken, mix it in.
Baking
- Transfer the pasta mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
Serving
- Let rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with chopped parsley.
Notes
Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Freezing is an option for up to 2 months. Reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave.
