Method
Preparation
- Combine the ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix gently and form into two patties.
Caramelizing Onions
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt some butter and add the sliced onions. Cook slowly while stirring occasionally for about 10-15 minutes until caramelized and golden.
Cooking Patties
- In the same skillet, cook the beef patties for 4-5 minutes on each side or until desired doneness, placing cheese on patties in the last minute to melt.
Assembling Sandwiches
- Butter one side of each bread slice. Layer cheese on the unbuttered side, followed by the beef patty and caramelized onions, then top with another slice of bread.
Grilling
- Grill the assembled sandwiches over medium heat in the skillet until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Serving
- Remove sandwiches from skillet, slice in half, and serve hot.
Notes
Leftover patty melts can be refrigerated for up to 3 days. For freezing, wrap tightly and store for up to 3 months. Reheat on stovetop for best results.
