  • 6 cups water, divided 3 cups for steeping and 3 cups cold.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Adjust to taste; alternatives include honey or maple syrup.

  • Fresh mint For garnish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Bring 3 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan.
  2. Once boiling, remove the saucepan from heat and add all 8 black tea bags. Let steep for 8 to 10 minutes.
  3. Remove and discard the tea bags to create a strong tea concentrate.
  4. While the tea is still hot, stir in 1/2 cup of granulated sugar until fully dissolved.
  5. Add the remaining 3 cups of cold water and 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice. Stir well to combine.
  6. If using, whisk in 1/4 teaspoon of food-grade activated charcoal powder until fully dissolved.
  7. Chill the tea in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
Servicing
  1. Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled black iced tea over the ice.
  2. Garnish each glass with a lemon wheel and a sprig of fresh mint.

Notes

Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in a sealed container. Freezing is not recommended. For a warm tea, heat gently over low heat or microwave a cup for about 30 seconds.
