Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened but not melted Use good-quality butter for the best flavor.
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar Add gradually to avoid mess.
  • 2 tablespoons brandy Other options include rum, cognac, sherry, or whiskey.
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract Optional for added flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon imitation rum extract For a non-alcoholic version.

Method

Preparation
  1. Place the softened butter in a mixing bowl and beat it for several minutes until it looks pale and fluffy.
  2. Add the powdered sugar and beat until the mixture becomes smooth, but be careful not to overbeat.
  3. Add the brandy one tablespoon at a time, then mix in the vanilla if using it, and stop mixing as soon as the sauce looks smooth.
  4. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the sauce for at least 2 hours, or overnight if possible.
  5. Before serving, take the sauce out of the fridge a couple of hours prior to soften to a spreadable texture.
  6. Spoon or spread the sauce over hot desserts so it melts into a silky sauce.
  7. Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator.

Notes

For the best texture, let the butter soften at room temperature until it gives slightly when pressed. Store in the refrigerator or freeze for longer preservation. Serve it over warm desserts for the best experience.
