Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
- Add the cubed bread to the custard mixture, pressing gently to saturate. Let it soak for about 30 minutes. Stir in raisins if using.
Baking
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and bake for 45-55 minutes or until the top is golden brown and set.
Making the Sauce
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the bourbon, brown sugar, heavy cream, and butter. Bring to a simmer, stirring frequently until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
Serving
- Remove the bread pudding from the oven and let it cool slightly. Serve warm, drizzled with the bourbon caramel sauce.
Notes
Ensure bread is a little stale for the best texture. This bread pudding can be served with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
