Ingredients

Caramel Mixture
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
Additional Ingredients
  • 1 cup marshmallows
  • 1 cup roasted peanuts Unsalted recommended for flavor
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips Can substitute with dark or white chocolate

Method

Prepare the Caramel Mixture
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water. Heat this mixture over medium heat until it reaches a boil. Stir occasionally to help dissolve the sugar.
Achieve the Perfect Color
  1. Once boiling, add the unsalted butter and sweetened condensed milk. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until it changes to a deep caramel color, about 5-7 minutes.
Add Flavorful Ingredients
  1. Remove the saucepan from the heat and quickly stir in the marshmallows, vanilla extract, and roasted peanuts until well combined.
Spread and Cool
  1. Pour the nougat mixture into a greased baking dish and spread it evenly. Allow it to cool at room temperature until set, about 30-45 minutes.
Prepare the Chocolate Topping
  1. Melt the milk chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl or on the stovetop. Once melted, pour the chocolate over the cooled nougat layer.
Cut and Serve
  1. After the chocolate has set, remove the candy from the dish and cut into bars. Enjoy!

Notes

Store nougat bars in an airtight container at room temperature for 5-7 days or freeze for up to 3 months. For warm servings, microwave a bar for about 10-15 seconds.
