Ingredients

Cake Ingredients
  • 1 cup flour Use all-purpose flour for best results.
  • 2 pieces eggs
  • 0.5 cup sugar White sugar can be substituted with brown sugar for deeper flavor.
  • 0.5 cup butter (melted) Can substitute with unsweetened applesauce for a healthier option.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla Almond extract can be used for a unique twist.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder Ensure to use a dash for proper rising.
  • optional brown food coloring For a more sinister look.
  • to taste sliced almonds Used as claws for decoration.
  • 1 mold madeleines or paw-shaped mold Ensure it's well greased before use.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease your paw-shaped or madeleine mold to prevent sticking.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat together the eggs and sugar until the mixture is pale and thick, approximately three minutes.
  3. Gently fold in the flour, baking powder, and vanilla to the egg mixture. Be careful not to overmix.
  4. Fold in the melted butter until the batter is smooth and well combined.
  5. Fill each cavity of the greased mold about 3/4 full with the batter and press 3-4 sliced almonds into the front to create claws.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cakes are golden and springy.
  2. Cool them in the mold for a few moments before gently unmolding and finishing the cooling on a rack.

Notes

For best results, avoid overmixing the batter and ensure that the mold is well greased. Cooling the cakes slightly before unmolding helps prevent breakage.
