Preparation
- Start by dividing the pizza dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope about 12 inches in length.
- Take one hot dog and wrap the dough rope around it evenly. Pinch the dough edges together tightly to seal the dough completely around the hot dog.
- Place the wrapped hot dogs on a lined baking sheet. Cover them lightly with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let them rise at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
Boiling
- While the pretzel dogs are rising, heat a large pot of water until it reaches a boil. Add 1/3 cup of baking soda carefully to the boiling water.
- Boil each wrapped hot dog for 20 seconds, making sure not to overcrowd the pot.
- Remove them carefully with a slotted spoon and drain on a wire rack or paper towels.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 425°F. Arrange the boiled pretzel dogs on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them evenly.
- Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until the pretzel dogs develop a deep golden brown color and a firm crust.
Finishing Touches
- As soon as you remove the pretzel dogs from the oven, brush them generously with the melted butter.
- Then roll or sprinkle them evenly with the cinnamon and granulated sugar mixture while they are still warm.
Serving
- Serve your cinnamon sugar soft pretzel dogs warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
Store any leftover pretzel dogs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet or microwave before serving. For longer storage, freeze individually wrapped pretzel dogs for up to 2 months.
