  • 1 cup water Heat until just simmering.
  • 2 ounces bourbon or whiskey Substitute as desired.
  • 1 tablespoon honey Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice Plus one thin lemon wheel for garnish.
Spices
  • 1 stick cinnamon For infusing flavor.
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 (1/4-inch) slice fresh ginger Optional, for extra warmth.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Start by pouring 1 cup water into a small saucepan. Heat until it is just at a gentle simmer, then remove from heat.
  2. Place 1 tablespoon honey in a heatproof mug. Pour in about 1/4 cup of the hot water and stir until honey dissolves.
  3. Add 2 ounces bourbon or whiskey, 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, and the remaining hot water to the mug. Stir to combine.
  4. Add the cinnamon stick, cloves, and ginger slice (if using) to the mug and let steep for 3 to 4 minutes.
  5. Taste the drink and adjust sweetness with more honey if desired.
  6. Garnish with a thin lemon wheel and serve hot.

Notes

For best results, do not let the water boil. Adjust honey and spices based on personal preference. Pairs well with cookies or light snacks.
