  • 1 cup apple cider Provides sweetness to the dish.
  • 1 piece onion, sliced Yellow or red onion can be used based on preference.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic is preferred but can substitute with garlic powder.
  • 2 teaspoons thyme Dried thyme can be used but reduce to 1 teaspoon.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Used for searing the chicken.

Method

Preparation
  1. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chicken breasts and sear them until they turn golden brown on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove the breasts and set them aside.
  3. In the crockpot, combine the apple cider, sliced onion, minced garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir gently to mix.
  4. Place the seared chicken breasts in the crockpot and spoon some of the apple cider mixture over the top.
Cooking
  1. Cover the crockpot and cook the chicken on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4 hours, until the chicken is tender and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
Serving
  1. Serve the chicken hot with the apple cider sauce spooned over the top and pair with your choice of sides.

Notes

Pairs well with creamy mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad. Ensure proper thawing if using frozen chicken.
