Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup rolled oats Use whole grain and minimally processed oats for best results.
  • 2 cups milk or almond milk Almond milk can be used as a dairy-free option.
  • 1 bag chai tea bag Steep for 5 minutes for optimal flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup Add sweetener according to your taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt
Toppings
  • as desired sliced bananas
  • as desired nuts Use your preferred nuts, or substitute with seeds.
  • as desired dried fruits

Method

Preparation
  1. In a saucepan, bring the milk (or almond milk) to a simmer over medium heat. Once it’s started to bubble slightly, add in the chai tea bag. Let the tea steep for about 5 minutes.
  2. After steeping, carefully remove the tea bag from the pan. Add the rolled oats, vanilla extract, honey or maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Stir everything together well.
Cooking
  1. Continue to cook the mixture over medium heat. Stir occasionally for about 5-7 minutes, or until the oats are tender and the mixture reaches a creamy consistency.
Serving
  1. Once the oats are cooked to your liking, remove the pan from the heat. Serve the oatmeal in bowls, and top with sliced bananas, your choice of nuts, and a selection of dried fruits.

Notes

Store leftover oatmeal in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for 2-3 months. Reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave, adding milk for creaminess if desired.
