Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the German chocolate cake mix, cooled brewed coffee, vegetable oil, and large eggs. Blend until well combined.
Baking
- Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
Frosting Preparation
- While the cakes are baking, prepare the mocha frosting by beating together softened butter, cocoa powder, and powdered sugar. Gradually add heavy cream until desired consistency.
- Stir in chopped pecans and vanilla extract.
Assembly
- Once cakes are cooled, remove them from the pans onto a wire rack. Place one layer on a serving plate and spread half of the frosting on top before adding the second layer.
- Apply the remaining frosting over the top and sides of the cake.
Decoration and Serving
- Garnish with additional pecans if desired, slice, and serve.
Notes
Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator to enjoy later.
