Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
- In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat. Once melted, add granulated sugar and brown sugar, stirring until well combined. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
- Stir in large eggs and vanilla extract to your mixture. Next, add in all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Mix until everything is combined, and then pour it into the prepared baking dish.
Baking the Brownie Layer
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until set but still fudgy in the center.
Preparing the Pecan Layer
- In a separate bowl, whisk together corn syrup, large eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract for the pecan layer. Stir in chopped pecans.
Baking the Pecan Layer
- Pour the pecan mixture over the brownie base and return to the oven. Bake for an additional 25-30 minutes or until the pecan layer is set.
Cooling and Serving
- Allow the dessert to cool completely before slicing into squares and serving.
Notes
Tips for selecting pecans: Look for whole, firm, and unbroken pecans. Consider toasting them for enhanced flavor. See the section on mistakes to avoid while making the dessert.
