Preparation
- Whisk together the milk, egg, water, and vanilla until fully combined.
- Add the sugar, baking powder, and salt, and whisk again. Then incorporate the flour until the batter is smooth with no lumps.
- Transfer the batter into a squeeze bottle or a zip-top bag with a snipped corner.
Cooking
- Heat about 1 inch of oil in a medium, deep-sided pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F.
- Drizzle half of the batter into the hot oil in a thin line to create a round lacy shape about 6 inches wide.
- Cook for approximately 2 minutes until the bottom is light golden brown, then flip and cook the other side for another 2 minutes until golden brown. Adjust heat if necessary.
- Lift the funnel cake onto a paper towel-lined plate to drain, then dust with powdered sugar.
- Repeat the frying process for the remaining batter.
Serving
- Serve the funnel cakes immediately while they are hot and crisp. Optionally, decorate with sprinkles or chocolate syrup.
Notes
Funnel cake is best eaten right away but can be stored at room temperature for up to 1 day. For freezing, wrap well and store in a freezer-safe container for up to 1 month.
