Preparation
- In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef with fine sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Use your hands to mix just until the seasonings are evenly distributed.
- Divide the meat mixture into 8 equal portions. Shape each into a patty about 4.5 inches wide and half an inch thick. Press a shallow dimple into the center of each patty.
Cooking
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, around 400-450 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.
- Place the patties on the grill and cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side for medium doneness. Flip only once.
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty if you’re using it. Close the grill lid to melt the cheese.
- Toast the cut sides of the hamburger buns directly on the grill for 30 to 60 seconds until they are lightly golden.
Assembly
- Arrange the burger toppings—lettuce, tomato slices, red onion, pickles, bacon, and condiments like ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise—on a large platter.
- Invite everyone to build their own perfect burger with their favorite toppings.
Storage
- Refrigerate leftover cooked patties in an airtight container for up to three days. When ready to enjoy again, reheat the patties in a skillet over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes per side until warmed through.
Notes
For a lighter option, a simple garden salad or a bowl of mixed fruit gives a nice balance. Consider options for substitutions like using ground turkey for a leaner protein or different cheese varieties for extra flavor.
