Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to get started.
- In a large skillet, add the ground beef, onion, and garlic. Cook over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onions are translucent. Drain any excess fat.
Assembly and Baking
- In a large baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes evenly on the bottom. Next, add the green beans and then the cooked beef mixture.
- In a bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth. Pour this mixture evenly over the casserole layers. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for about 1 hour.
- If adding cheese, remove the foil after 1 hour, sprinkle the cheese over the casserole, and return it to the oven uncovered for an additional 10-15 minutes until melted and bubbly.
Serving
- Once finished, remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
This casserole is great for potlucks and can be customized with various vegetables. Leftovers can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
