Preparation
- Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F. While it heats up, line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a lightly floured surface. Pinch the perforated seams together to create solid rectangles.
- Slice the dough into thin strips about 1/4-inch wide.
Assembling
- Pat each hot dog piece dry with a paper towel. Take 2 to 3 dough strips and wrap them around each hot dog in a crisscross pattern, leaving a small gap at the end for the mummy's face.
- Pinch the ends of the dough strips to keep them secure.
- Place each wrapped hot dog seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, spaced about 1 inch apart.
- Brush the dough lightly with the beaten egg wash for a glossy finish.
Cooking
- Bake the hot dog mummies at 375°F for about 12 to 15 minutes, until the dough is puffed and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 3 to 4 minutes.
- While still warm, use a dab of mustard or ketchup to attach two candy eyes to each mummy. Alternatively, dot mustard directly for a savory option.
Notes
Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 1 month. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for 6 to 8 minutes or 30 seconds to 1 minute in the microwave.
