Preparation
- Mix Dry Ingredients: Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a mixer, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
- Add Egg and Extracts: Beat in the egg, almond extract, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Form Dough and Chill: Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms. Divide the dough into two balls, flatten into discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Baking
- Roll and Cut Shapes: On a lightly floured surface, roll the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thickness, cut into skeleton shapes, and place on prepared baking sheets.
- Bake and Cool: Bake for 9 to 11 minutes until just set. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
Icing
- Prepare Icing: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and corn syrup until smooth and pipeable.
- Pipe Skeleton Details: Transfer icing to a piping bag and pipe skeleton details onto each cookie. Allow icing to set for at least 2 hours.
Storage
- Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
Notes
For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free flour blend. Can substitute butter with coconut oil or vegan butter for dairy-free baking.
