Method
Preparation of Mocha Base
- Pour the strong brewed coffee into a medium saucepan. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of sugar, cocoa powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla. Whisk until the cocoa blends into the coffee.
- Set the saucepan over medium-high heat and keep whisking until it comes to a boil, then take it off the heat immediately.
Warm and Froth the Milk
- Pour the milk into a microwave-safe bowl and warm it for 1 1/2 minutes.
- Froth the milk with an immersion blender or frother until small bubbles form.
Whip the Cream
- Add the heavy cream and remaining vanilla to a medium bowl. Whip until it starts to thicken, then add the remaining sugar and continue whipping until stiff peaks form.
Assemble and Garnish
- Pour the hot coffee mixture into a mug, then add warm frothed milk.
- Top with whipped cream and finish with chocolate shavings or syrup if desired.
Storage Instructions
- If you have extra coffee base, let it cool and refrigerate for 1 to 2 days, or freeze it in ice cube trays for later.
Notes
For the best taste and texture, serve immediately. Adapt the sweetness and milk options to your liking. Avoid boiling the coffee mixture too long or overheating the milk.
