Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 cups apple cider Fresh, unfiltered cider is recommended for better flavor.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Can substitute with maple syrup.
  • 1 orange, sliced Can substitute with lemon slices for a tart twist.
  • 4 whole cloves For added warmth.
  • 1 teaspoon whole allspice Adds depth to the flavor.
  • 2 sticks cinnamon Use an extra for garnish if desired.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg Can substitute with pumpkin spice for a seasonal variation.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large pot, combine the apple cider, brown sugar, orange slices, whole cloves, allspice, cinnamon sticks, and ground nutmeg. Stir well to mix everything evenly.
  2. Place the pot on the stove over medium heat. Warm the mixture until it is steaming but not boiling.
  3. Once the mixture is steaming, reduce the heat to low. Allow it to simmer gently for about 20 minutes.
  4. After the simmering time, remove the pot from the heat. Carefully strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a clean pot or pitcher.
  5. Pour the hot spiced apple cider into mugs. You can garnish each serving with an extra cinnamon stick if desired.

Notes

Store any leftover cider in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. It can also be frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat on the stovetop over low heat or in the microwave.
