Ingredients

For Greasing
  • 1 teaspoon butter, for greasing the foil
Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup butter, cubed
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar Use fresh brown sugar that is soft and moist.
  • 1 can (5 ounces) evaporated milk Can be replaced with half-and-half for a richer taste.
  • 1 teaspoon maple flavoring Can be substituted with maple extract.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt Unsalted butter can be used for more control over saltiness.
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar

Method

Preparation
  1. Line an 8-inch square pan with foil and grease it with 1 teaspoon of butter.
Cooking
  1. In a large saucepan, combine the cubed butter, brown sugar, and evaporated milk. Bring to a full boil over medium heat while stirring constantly.
  2. Once boiling, keep cooking for 10 minutes, stirring often to prevent sticking.
  3. Remove from heat, then stir in maple flavoring, vanilla extract, and salt.
  4. Add confectioners' sugar and beat until smooth, about 2 minutes.
Finishing
  1. Spread the fudge mixture into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  2. Let cool completely at room temperature before cutting.
  3. Once firm, lift the fudge out using the foil, peel away the foil, and cut into 1-inch squares.
