Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb halal ground beef
  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 1 egg beaten (for wash)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, add a splash of oil. Sauté the finely chopped onions and minced garlic for about 2 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the finely chopped mushrooms and continue cooking until everything is nice and tender.
  4. Incorporate the halal ground beef into the skillet and stir in the Dijon mustard. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned and well combined. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  5. Roll out the sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into squares about 4 inches on each side.
  6. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of each pastry square. Be careful not to overfill.
  7. Fold the corners of the pastry over the filling to create a neat pocket. Pinch the edges to seal well.
  8. Brush the tops of the sealed pockets with the beaten egg for a shiny finish.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  10. Allow the bites to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Leftovers can be kept in the fridge for up to 3 days in an airtight container. You can freeze unbaked bites for up to 3 months. Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes to restore warmth.
