  • 1 loaf French bread (cubed) Look for a fresh or day-old loaf for the best texture.
  • 8 pieces eggs
  • 2.5 cups milk Use almond or oat milk for dairy-free option.
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream Can substitute with coconut cream.
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla Optional for added flavor.
Topping Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar For topping.
  • 1/3 cup cold butter Use unsalted for less saltiness.
Serving
  • as needed Maple syrup For drizzling on top.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9x13 inch dish lightly.
  3. Layer the cubed French bread evenly in the greased dish.
Mix Egg Mixture
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla until smooth.
  2. Pour this mixture evenly over the bread and gently press the bread down.
Refrigeration
  1. Cover the dish and refrigerate overnight.
Prepare Topping
  1. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, brown sugar, and cold butter until crumbly.
Baking
  1. Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the soaked bread.
  2. Bake for 45-50 minutes until puffed and golden.
  3. Let cool slightly before serving warm with drizzles of maple syrup.

Notes

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in the microwave or oven.
