Ingredients

For the glaze
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Can be replaced with flaky sea salt.
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon Can be substituted with pumpkin pie spice.
  • 2 tablespoons water Or use a spoonful of maple syrup mixed with a little water for extra flavor.
Main ingredient
  • 1 cup pecan halves Fresh pecan halves preferred; can substitute with walnuts, almonds, or cashews.

Method

Preparation
  1. Add the brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, and water to a skillet over medium heat. Stir them together and let the mixture cook for 1 to 2 minutes until the sugar dissolves and bubbles.
  2. Add the pecan halves to the skillet. Stir them gently but steadily to coat them fully in the glaze. Cook for about 3 more minutes; if the mixture still looks sticky, give it a little more time.
  3. Remove the skillet from the heat and spread the pecans out on parchment paper in a single layer. Let them cool completely so the glaze can harden.
  4. Once the pecans are fully cool, break apart any clusters with your hands. They should be crisp, sweet, and lightly spiced.
  5. Store any leftover pecans in an airtight jar or container at room temperature for short-term use, or freeze them for longer storage.

Notes

Pecans are the star here, so start with good quality ones. It is best to have all ingredients ready before starting, as the glaze cooks fast. If the sugar doesn’t get hot enough, the pecans may feel sticky after cooling, but they can be re-cooked.
