Method
Preparation
- Add the butter and heavy whipping cream to a saucepan. Set the pan over medium-low heat and whisk as the butter melts.
- Continue warming the mixture until it reaches a rolling boil, keeping a close eye on it so it does not boil over.
Cooking
- Once the butter and cream are boiling, add the grated Parmesan to the saucepan. Sprinkle in the dash of salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Whisk constantly for about 10 minutes, while the Parmesan melts into the cream mixture.
- Keep the whisk moving around the bottom and edges of the pan to help the cheese melt evenly.
Resting
- Take the saucepan off the heat once the cheese has melted and let the sauce stand for 3 to 5 minutes.
Serving
- Pour the warm sauce over cooked pasta and toss until the noodles are coated.
- Serve right away, or top the pasta with cooked chicken or shrimp for a heartier meal.
Notes
For the best texture, use finely grated Parmesan. Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
