Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup salted butter (1 stick), real butter
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 1/4 cups grated Parmesan cheese Use finely grated for smoother sauce
  • 1 dash salt Taste before adding
  • 1 dash pepper
  • 1 dash garlic powder

Method

Preparation
  1. Add the butter and heavy whipping cream to a saucepan. Set the pan over medium-low heat and whisk as the butter melts.
  2. Continue warming the mixture until it reaches a rolling boil, keeping a close eye on it so it does not boil over.
Cooking
  1. Once the butter and cream are boiling, add the grated Parmesan to the saucepan. Sprinkle in the dash of salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. Whisk constantly for about 10 minutes, while the Parmesan melts into the cream mixture.
  3. Keep the whisk moving around the bottom and edges of the pan to help the cheese melt evenly.
Resting
  1. Take the saucepan off the heat once the cheese has melted and let the sauce stand for 3 to 5 minutes.
Serving
  1. Pour the warm sauce over cooked pasta and toss until the noodles are coated.
  2. Serve right away, or top the pasta with cooked chicken or shrimp for a heartier meal.

Notes

For the best texture, use finely grated Parmesan. Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
