Method
Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
- Divide the mixture and shape it into 4 equal-sized patties.
Cooking
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the patties to the skillet.
- Cook each patty until browned on both sides, approximately 5-7 minutes per side. Once cooked, remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.
Making the Gravy
- In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms. Cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Sprinkle the flour over the cooked mushrooms and stir well, cooking for about 1 minute.
- Gradually pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce while stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Continue to stir until the sauce is smooth.
Finishing Touches
- Return the browned patties to the skillet with the mushroom gravy. Cover and let it simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes.
- Plate the Salisbury steak and ladle the mushroom gravy generously over the top.
