Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 lbs pork shoulder Look for good marbling for flavor.
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce Use your favorite type.
  • 1 medium onion, sliced Creates a flavorful base.
  • 1 cup chicken broth Can substitute with vegetable or beef broth.
  • 6 pieces burger buns Use fluffy buns for serving.
  • to taste pickles (optional) For added crunch.
  • to taste coleslaw (optional) For added texture.

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by placing the sliced onion at the bottom of your slow cooker. This will create a flavorful base for your pork.
  2. Rub the pork shoulder with your favorite seasonings. Coat it well for maximum flavor. Once seasoned, place the pork on top of the onions in the slow cooker.
  3. Pour the chicken broth and half of the barbecue sauce over the pork. This mixture will keep the meat moist and imbue it with flavor as it cooks.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours. The meat should become tender and easily shreddable.
  5. Once cooked, remove the pork shoulder from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Using two forks, shred the meat into bite-sized pieces.
  6. In a large bowl, mix the shredded pork with the remaining barbecue sauce. Stir well until the meat is fully covered in that delicious, tangy sauce.
  7. Serve the pulled pork on soft burger buns. Feel free to add optional pickles and coleslaw for added flavor and crunch.

Notes

Store leftover pulled pork in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat with chicken broth added to keep it moist.
