Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 3-4 pounds pork shoulder Look for good marbling, ideally bone-in.
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Can use honey for a natural sweetener.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Tamari can be used for gluten-free alternative.
Spices
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper Optional for added spice.
For Serving
  • buns Buns for serving Consider serving with coleslaw, baked beans, or a green salad.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, mix together the BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, soy sauce, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper if using, until well blended.
  2. Place the pork shoulder into the slow cooker and pour the sauce mixture over it, ensuring it’s evenly coated.
  3. Cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on low for about 8 hours or on high for 4-5 hours.
Serving
  1. Once the cooking time is up, remove the pork and shred the meat using two forks.
  2. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker, mix well with the sauce, and serve on buns.
  3. Add more BBQ sauce on top if desired.

Notes

Store leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat on the stovetop or microwave.
