Method
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 450°F and grease a baking sheet.
- Stir the biscuit and baking mix with 1 cup milk just until a dough forms, being careful not to overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently only 3 to 4 times, then pat or roll to about 1/2 inch thick.
- Cut the dough straight down with a biscuit cutter. Place onto the greased baking sheet and lightly spray or brush tops.
Baking the Biscuits
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until puffed and golden.
Preparing the Chocolate Gravy
- In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, flour, cocoa powder, and milk. Heat over medium heat until boiling, stirring constantly to prevent scorching.
- Once boiling, reduce heat and stir for about 1 more minute until thickened. Stir in the butter (and vanilla and salt if using) after removing from heat.
Serving
- Split or tear the warm biscuits into bowls, pour the chocolate gravy over the top, and serve immediately.
Notes
Keep leftover chocolate gravy in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Store leftover biscuits at room temperature for up to 2 days. For freezing, wrap biscuits tightly and freeze for up to 2 months.
