- Pour the apple cider into a medium-sized saucepan. Add the cinnamon stick and whole cloves. Heat over medium heat until the cider is warm, simmering gently for about 10 minutes.
- Carefully remove the cinnamon stick and cloves using a slotted spoon or fine mesh strainer.
- Stir in the brown sugar and butter until both are fully melted and combined into the cider.
- Remove from heat and stir in the dark rum until well combined.
- Pour the spiced cider into mugs, being careful not to fill them to the top.
- Twist the orange peel over each mug to release essential oils and drop in as a garnish. Serve warm.
Notes
This cider is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. It can also be frozen for up to 2 months in an airtight container. To reheat, warm it gently on the stovetop or in the microwave.
