Ingredients
  

For the Cupcakes
  • 12 pieces baked chocolate cupcakes
For the Ganache
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips High-quality chocolate is essential for a smooth ganache.
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream Heat the cream until it just simmers.
For Decorating
  • 12 pieces small chocolate truffles or chocolate-covered cherries These will act as the spider's body.
  • 24 pieces black licorice laces, cut into 3-inch pieces These will be used for the legs.
  • 24 pieces candy eyeballs For giving the spiders their spooky face.

Method
 

Make the Chocolate Ganache
  1. Heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat just as it starts to simmer.
  2. Pour the hot cream over the semisweet chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl and let sit for 2 minutes.
  3. Stir gently until the ganache is smooth and glossy.
Cool the Ganache and Coat Cupcakes
  1. Let the ganache cool for about 10 minutes until slightly thicker but still pourable.
  2. Dip the top of each chocolate cupcake into the ganache or spread it evenly on top.
Add the Spider Body
  1. While the ganache is still wet, press a chocolate truffle or cherry onto the center of each cupcake.
Attach the Spider Legs
  1. Insert 4 pieces of black licorice on each side of the truffle to look like spider legs.
Stick on the Candy Eyeballs
  1. Press 2 candy eyeballs onto the front of the chocolate truffle.
Chill to Set
  1. Place the decorated cupcakes in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes to set.

Notes

Store decorated cupcakes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Unfrosted cupcakes can be frozen for up to 2 months.
