  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Low-sodium soy sauce can be used as an alternative.
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar Honey or maple syrup can be used for different sweetness.
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce Teriyaki sauce can work as a substitute.
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar Apple cider vinegar or white vinegar can substitute.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Sauté until fragrant.
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced Add with garlic for flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes Adjust heat to taste.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil Used for browning the beef.
  • Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Cooked rice (for serving) Serve beef over rice.

Preparation Steps
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the sesame oil and the ground beef. Cook until the beef is browned, using a spatula to break it apart as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Once the beef is browned, carefully drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  3. Reduce the heat slightly and add the minced garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes to the beef. Cook for about 1 minute, stirring frequently, until fragrant.
  4. Next, add the soy sauce, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, and rice vinegar to the skillet. Stir everything together until well combined.
  5. Allow the mixture to simmer for a few minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  6. Serve the beef mixture over cooked rice, and top with chopped green onions for garnish. Enjoy your warm and comforting meal.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 days in an airtight container. It can be frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat on the stovetop or microwave with a splash of water if necessary.
