Ingredients

For the Apple Filling
  • 6 cups apples, peeled and sliced Use firm apples like Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Fuji.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Oat Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with whole wheat flour for a nuttier flavor.
  • 1 cup rolled oats Quick oats can be used, but will alter the texture.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted Coconut oil or unsalted margarine can be substituted for a dairy-free option.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Reduce or replace with a sugar substitute for a lower-calorie option.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
Make the Oat Topping
  1. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, rolled oats, granulated sugar, and baking powder. Add the melted butter and stir until crumbly.
  2. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
Bake and Serve
  1. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  2. Allow cooling slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce.

Notes

Tips: Be sure not to overcook the apples for the best texture. Keep an eye on the cobbler during the last 10 minutes to prevent the topping from burning.
